When I chose to self-publish my first books in 2003, I also chose to work as much as possible with “Mom & Pop” bookstores, gift shops, galleries, and specialty stores because I believe strongly in small town America and family values. Over the years I have watched as family-owned businesses, including several of the lovely outlets I have worked with have been driven out of business under the weight of competition from mega-stores and wholesalers. Still, here and there, unique places survive because there just isn’t anything a box store can do to match their charm, selection, and spirit. Let’s hear it for small town spirit!
